Paging Veritas

"I saw my father march with Martin Luther King."

 Mitt's father, Gov. George Romney, a moderate Republican, was viewed as strong on civil rights and he was supportive of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. However, he never marched with Dr. King. Mitt made that up in a lame attempt to pander to African American voters and then refused to back down when the truth of his lie was revealed. Here's what he said in defense of his earlier statement: 

"I think the thing that's relevant is that my dad was a champion in the civil rights movement, that he aligned himself with Martin Luther King." 

 

In the world I live in, that is not the same thing as saying "I saw my father march with Martin Luther King." What would folks call you if you said you saw your father marching with a famous civil rights leader, and you know that you never saw such a thing?

*In terms of faux pas, Mitt Romney is the gift that keeps on giving. I will certainly offer further evidence for why he needs to go sit down somewhere as the election year marches forward.
