Restoration 101

"The DIY project took place a couple of weeks ago at the the church of Santuario de Misericordia in Borja, Spain, when an elderly woman reportedly took it upon herself to repair a fresco by 19th century Spanish artist Elias Garcia Martinez." --Huffington Post, 8/22/12

Apparently, it's not the first time Senora Gimenez got hold of a paint brush!

The Definition of Insanity

"A new law was signed by [Republican] Arizona Governor Jan Brewer on Thursday that has abortion advocates up in arms. The new law, titled "Women’s Health and Safety Act," deems a woman pregnant 2 weeks before conception." --Kelly Cozzone, Examiner.com (August 25, 2012)

Meanwhile, in Michigan...

From Politico, April 12, 2011: "I think the citizenship test has been passed. I believe the president was born in the United States. There are real reasons to get this guy out of office," Romney told CNBC's Larry Kudlow the day after he formally announced that he’s exploring a run for the White House. "The man needs to be taken out of office but his citizenship isn't the reason why."

"No one's ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised." --Mitt Romney, August 24, 2012

Resurrecting the birther nonsense. I guess desperate times call for desperate measures!

Fixing Stupid

Rep. Todd Akin (R-Missouri) on his stance on abortion and pregnancies from the act of rape:

"It seems to me, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape [my bold italics], the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something. You know, I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child."

According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 32,000 pregnancies result from rape each year--so much for "rare."Although he later issued the standard "I misspoke" quote to try to walk back his stunningly ignorant, outrageous, and inaccurate remarks, it's clear that Todd Akin's original quote reflects his views on women, abortion, and rape. The "war on women" by the GOP is real.
